Vilnius is proud to be the European Green Capital this year. The greenness of the city – the connection of its buildings with nature – is encoded in the city’s “genes”, i.e. in its heritage layers. The Vilnius Old Town Renovation Agency, together with its partner the Baltic Environmental Forum, invites Vilnius residents and anyone who is interested in learning about the city’s natural layers to participate in the educational series “Vilnius Old Town – the DNA of the Green Capital”.
We will begin our acquaintance with Vilnius from the times when there was no city or settlement, i.e. from the Ice Ages. According to geologist, Dr. Jonas Šečkus, “every city dweller, walking past the Cathedral, climbing the Three Crosses or Gediminas’ Hill, perfectly remembers the historical greatness and tragedy of our capital and its current resurrection from the ashes. However, even when there were no people here, strange things were happening. Nature built our natural fortress – long, patiently, very ingeniously and uniquely.” We will hear and discuss all this and more at the educational session Educational session “Geological structure of Vilnius – the foundation of the city”.
The event is open to everyone, but registration is required: https://forms.gle/WFLWW3K9JrkLodqJ9
