On April 1st, the jubilee exhibition “The Human Path” by artist, curator, art critic, and writer Dr. Vidas Poškus will open at the “TSEKH” art gallery in Vilnius. The exhibition invites visitors to explore the creative work of the artist and reflect on what the “path” means to each of us. What is it like, where does it lead, and what values should guide our choices and actions in this journey? This exhibition encourages viewers not only to imagine but also to reflect on their life’s path, its meaning, and how our choices shape our personal existence.
Vidas Poškus’ exhibition “The Human Path” is a conceptual and visual reflection on the human life journey, its adventures, challenges, and reflections. Dedicated to the artist’s fiftieth anniversary, the exhibition presents drawings, paintings, and texts that provide a deeper look into human existence in both the material and immaterial realms.
In this exhibition, Poškus’ works not only offer a retrospective overview of his earlier creations but also present a new, conceptual approach to the “human path.” These are not merely specific works but discoveries of ideas, symbols, and subtexts that encourage the viewer to contemplate the meaning of life’s journey as a constant process of change and search.
“The Human Path,” as a concept, is associated with ancient philosophical traditions where the journey through life was seen not only as a physical movement but also as a spiritual and intellectual quest. Poškus’ work invites viewers to reflect on their own experiences, choices, and life goals, much like the thoughts of philosophers such as Socrates or Aristotle, who spoke of self-knowledge and living according to virtue.
The artist’s works, like philosophical reflections on human nature, do not provide direct answers, but encourage a deeper exploration of the meaning of life and humanity’s place in the world. Poškus’ pieces reflect the constant change and search, much like philosophical theories that constantly urge us to question, think, and search for answers.
In the exhibition, the human journey is perceived as an ongoing interaction with everyday life and existential questions. The works prompt us to consider how our choices shape our path and how they contribute to the overall purpose of life.
Poškus’ work, like Nietzsche’s thoughts on human potential to overcome weaknesses, offers the viewer the freedom to find their own path through creativity and personal experiences. It is not passive existence but an active creative process where each person contributes their unique input to the collective world.
The exhibition “The Human Path” is presented at the International Art Gallery “TSEKH,” located in the former Vilnius Builders’ Culture House. This space holds a deep historical and cultural connection to the city’s past. Initially, a church was built here, later a cultural center operated, and today it serves as an art gallery. The gallery’s space reinforces the exhibition’s idea of the symbolism of the path – it is a place where the past, present, and future meet, where changes and transformations are an inseparable part of human life.
The artist invites viewers to reflect on humanity’s relationship with life, on the choices each makes on their “holy path,” leading to spiritual liberation, fulfillment, and truth. The gallery becomes the “station” of artists, where works reveal the stages of the creator’s journey, interpretations of the spiritual and material worlds.
The exhibition is also connected to the former site of Antanas Vivulskis’ Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, which reminds us of the human struggle to find truth and the meaning of life. The church, as a sanctuary, connects the human body and soul with higher ideals, while art serves as a bridge between the sacred and everyday reality.
