Vladas Martikonis (1935–2019) was a master of decorated Easter eggs (margučiai), whose work intertwined folk traditions with personal experience. Born in Ukmergė District, he was inspired by the local crafts of his childhood and dedicated his life to egg decorating using traditional Lithuanian motifs. His collection includes over 600 decorated eggs, bridging past and present.
This tradition continues today through artist Daiva Sasnauskienė, who began decorating eggs in her childhood in Nida. Her artistic practice—which also includes straw gardens, floristry, and watercolors—is marked by a meditative and free-spirited approach to folk art. She not only creates but also shares her knowledge through educational workshops and creative sessions.
The exhibition presents the works of both artists as a testimony to the vitality, continuity, and love for the tradition of egg decorating.
