After 15 years, the National Gallery of Art in Vilnius unveils a renewed exhibition of early 20th-century Lithuanian art. The opening takes place on April 30, 2025, at 6 PM, with events continuing through the weekend.
Curators Prof. Giedrė Jankevičiūtė and Gabrielė Radzevičiūtė offer a fresh narrative, placing interwar artistic life in a broader historical context. The exhibition showcases a wide range of artists—from M. K. Čiurlionis, A. Žmuidzinavičius, and D. Tarabildienė to lesser-known figures. Visitors will experience not only painting and sculpture but also photography, animation, applied and book graphics. A rotating thematic section will be updated every six months—the first focuses on leisure and entertainment in interwar Lithuania. The exhibition is designed to be inclusive: a special project “Blind Date” offers access for visitors with visual impairments, while children and families can explore a creative space inspired by period literature and aesthetics.
On opening night, a live sound performance from the play Café existans will animate the galleries, and free guided tours with the curators will be held on May 2 and 3. This is a living, evolving narrative of Lithuanian art—an invitation to reimagine heritage and collective memory through a contemporary lens.
