“Poetry from the Letter M” | Musical Poetry Transformations 2025

On April 16, 2025, at 6:30 PM, the Grand Hall of the Vilnius County Adomas Mickevičius Public Library will host a free concert, “Poetry from the Letter M,” featuring Milda Arčikauskaitė (vocals) and Vytautas Straižys (piano). This event is part of the concert series “Musical Poetry Transformations 2025.” Milda Arčikauskaitė is also dedicating this performance to World Voice Day.

“Poetry from the Letter M” is the latest creative project by singer Milda Arčikauskaitė, consisting of original musical compositions based on the works of Lithuanian poets. A unifying theme among these poets is that their surnames or pseudonyms begin with the letter M.

“Lithuania is a land of poets and bards. Reading poetry in the Lithuanian language brings clarity and lightness to the mind. This cultural heritage provides strength and nourishes the soul. The works of our poets hold answers. The ability to read is the ability to find peace. Creating music based on Lithuanian poetry is a challenge, a joy, and a divine gift. There are countless possibilities in sound. Every time, it is fascinating to decide how a poem might come to life through music,” says Milda Arčikauskaitė.

The program “Poetry from the Letter M” will feature original compositions by Milda and Vytautas, inspired by the poetry of Maironis, Czesław Miłosz, Jonas Mekas, Marcelijus Martinaitis, Antanas Martinaitis, Justinas Marcinkevičius, Adomas Mickevičius, Oscar Milosz, and perhaps even Vytautas Mačernis.
